We have a tremendous group of speakers, including Karyn Temple, the Acting
Register of Copyrights and Director of the USCO speaking at Dinner on
Thursday, 4/12, and the Honorable Mary Pat Thynge, Chief Magistrate Judge
for the District of Delaware – the new hot venue for patent litigation –
speaking on that as well as mediating IP cases during lunch on 4/13.
Presentations include attorneys and experts that were involved in the Star
Athletica and TC Heartland cases at the SCOTUS and the trial of “Blurred
Lines” case involving Robin Thicke and the doctrine of subconscious copying.
Our own Judicial Chair, the Honorable Mary S. Scriven, will lead a panel of
federal judges from all three Florida districts discussing effective and
ethical advocacy to the bench in IP cases, including the Honorable Darrin
Gayles, the Honorable Mark Walker, and the Honorable Patricia Barksdale.
Jim Gale, Sam Lewis, Don Conwell, Ava Doppelt, Jeanne Seewald, and Mark
Stein will kick off the festivities by serving on a panel discussing how to
prepare for the IP Board Certification Exam on Thursday afternoon.
A presentation on trademark survey lessons learned in the Squirt v Eveready
case will be followed by the always popular – and key to avoiding
malpractice for another year – Patent, Trademark, and Copyright Year In
Review.
