Agenda for January 10, 2013 IP Committee Meeting

The IP Committee will meet in Orlando, Florida, from 8:00 – 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, January 10, 2013 during the Business Law Section’s Mid-Year Meeting.

The agenda for the meeting includes a CLE presentation by Stephen Milbrath and Matt Horowitz of Allen, Dyer, Doppelt, Millbrath & Gilchrist, P.A.‘s Orlando office entitled “The Hague Agreement, The Patent Law Treaty Implementation Act and their Likely Impact.”

We will also discuss proposed revisions to the Florida noncompete statute, 542.335, Fla. Stat., and possible legislative solutions to the current circuit split in the interpretation of the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act. William Patry to Kick Off 2013 IP Symposium

William Patry, author of respected treatise Patry on Copyight, will lead off the Florida Bar’s Fourth Annual Intellectual Property Symposium on Thursday March 21, 2013 with a dinner keynote address entitled “How to Fix Copyright.” Patry will discuss his recent book by the same name, and offer insight into his proposed solutions for dealing with copyright policy issues in the Internet Age. A recent review of the book described Patry as “one of copyright’s best scholars,” and calls How to Fix Copyright “incandescent.”

The Florida Bar will host the IP Symposium at the West Palm Beach Marriott, conveniently located minutes from the West Palm Beach airport at 1001 Okeechobee Boulevard. Save the Date! Fourth Annual IP Symposium March 21-22, 2013

Save the Date!  The Business Law Section’s Intellectual Property Committee is already hard at work pulling together a fantastic program for the Fourth Annual Intellectual Property Symposium.  For 2013, the two-day symposium will be on Thursday, March 21 through Friday, March 22, 2013  in West Palm Beach.  So mark your calendars!

This event is the must-attend event of the year for intellectual property practitioners throughout the state.  The Symposium combines a full day of top-notch intellectual property continuing legal education credit with the opportunity to network with colleagues from throughout the state.  On Thursday, the Intellectual Property Committee holds a committee meeting, followed by a dinner speaker that is not to be missed.  There’s something for everyone — speakers will cover copyright, trademark, patent, and cross-disciplinary topics at an advanced level — a huge help to anyone seeking or maintaining board certification in Intellectual Property law.  Past speakers have included Ann Gilson LaLonde, author of Gilson on Trademarks,  Robert Stoll, Commissioner of Patents, and prominent professors and practitioners from all over the country.

Agenda for June 21, 2012 IP Committee Meeting

The IP Committee will meet from 9:00 – 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 21, 2012 during The Florida Bar Annual Convention. The agenda for the meeting includes a CLE presentation by Jerold Schneider of Arnstein & Lehr in West Palm Beach titled IP at the International Trade Commission.  We will also discuss proposed revisions to the Floria noncompete statute, 542.335, Fla.
