In August of 2009, the Intellectual Property Certification Committee proposed amendments to the rules regarding IP Certification that would require IP certified lawyers to devote a minimum of 50% of their practice to IP in order to be certified or recertified. To read the proposal, click here.
At our committee meeting on January 21, 2009 in Orlando (agenda forthcoming), we plan a spirited “Lincoln-Douglas” type debate on the issue. A volunteer to argue AGAINST the change is being sought (Bob Kain, Chair of the certification committee will argue for the change).
If you are willing and able to take this very important position on behalf of would be certification candidates, please contact me, Joel Rothman, as soon as possible.
Also, please plan to attend so that your views can be heard and considered on this important issue.
